One's Own Person

"Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one's own person is its ultimate reward"...by Patricia Sampson

We need other people. Self-reliance does not mean we are isolated or standoffish. It means that, when connecting with others, we do so as sufficient people. We don't tax another person or demand they meet our needs.

Becoming self-reliant is rewarding not only to our own level of self-reliance, but also to set the stage for healthier relationships. Whole and happy, we enjoy our own company and relate to others with greater depth and respect.

I want to become more self-reliant. It can make me more confident--and help me become a better friend to others....by...Steve Deger
